Aluminium Flyscreen Windows Custom Made Any Size Builder

Recess fix: We have 11mm and 9mm thick flyscreen frames. The standard security window screen is 11mm.

You must ensure that the window has enough recess for the screens to fit into. The best way is to measure the existing screen and use the sizes for the new screens. If you need help measuring screens for a recess fix, you can contact us.

Face fix: You can fit the screen to to the face of the window frame either internally or externally by drilling through the frame of the window surround, and screwing or riveting in place. Great care must be given to not interfere with the operation of the window’s action, E.g. Window spirals etc.

METHOD

1. How to measure an existing screen:

If you have existing screens and they are a good fit, then the easiest way to measure for new ones is to remeasure your old ones. Please make sure the recess is at least 11mm wide.

Note: When measuring existing screen, you must not take measurements from the centre in case the screen is bowed. You need to measure the side of the screen to obtain an accurate read.

Screen Width: Measure from the outer edge of the frame top and bottom, record the smallest measurement. Note: If there is a variation in two reads, the maximum variation cannot be more than 4mm, if the variation is greater contact us to discuss solutions 02 8385 4553.

Screen Height: Measure the height left and right, record the smallest measurement.

Recess Width: Using a solid ruler measure the width of your recess, advise us when placing your order if your recess width is other than 11 mm.

2. How to measure for a new screen (face fixed):

Note: The safest method of measuring is to fit the screen to the face of the window and this is sometimes the only option. You would then drill through the frame of the window surround, and screw or rivet in place.

Screen Width: Measure the recess top and bottom, record the smallest measurement.

Screen Height: Measure the height left and right, record the smallest measurement.

3. How to measure for a new screen (recess fixed): 

Screen Width: Measure inside recess of windows where screen will be located, top and bottom then deduct 2-3 mm to allow fitting clearance and record the smallest measurement.

Screen Height: Measure inside recess of windows where screen will be located, left and right then deduct 2-3 mm to allow fitting clearance and record the smallest measurement.

Recess Width: Using a solid ruler measure the width of your recess, advise us when placing your order if your recess width is other than 11 mm.

Recess Depth/Width: Using a solid ruler measure the depth of your recess, advise us when placing your order if your recess depth is other than 11 mm.

Pop Rivet Face Fix:

Use a 3mm drill bit to pre-drill the holes then use 3mm x 15mm rivets to face fix the screens to the outside of the window frame.

***IMPORTANT – MEASURE YOUR RECESS BEFORE YOU ORDER!***

11mm frames only fit recesses larger/wider than 11mm, SWH will not replace screens ordered with the incorrect frame as they must be completely remade with all-new stock.

9mm frames only for fit recess larger/wider than 9mm. We recommend using 9 mm frames if the screen is less than 1.2m high. Large screens made from a 9 mm frame are not structurally sound and can easily bend under pressure.  If the recess is less than 11mm and the screen is longer than 1.5m or close to 1.5m in any side, we strongly recommend you face-fix the screen with 11mm frames.

Where do I measure my fly screens?

Before you measure you need to establish where exactly how you are going to fix the fly screen to the window. There are two basic types of external fixing.

Recess fix: Our standard fly screen frame is 11 mm thick at the outer wall. Fixing can be by riveting or screwing either internally or externally. There are many different window profile, it is impossible to state as a general rule how to measure and fix the screen. This decision has to be made by the person installing it.

Face fix: This type of fixing is applied when there is no recessed area provided for a fly screen, and the screen is simply fitted to the face of the window by drilling through the frame of the window surround, and screwing or riveting directly to the face of the window outer sill and surround. Great care must be given to not interfere with the operation of the window’s action, eg. window spirals etc.

To measure for a recess fix is difficult, because of the many variations in styles. One simple method is to remeasure the existing fly screen if it is a good fit, and a measurement can be obtained. If this option is not available than you must be mindful of being able to fit into the recess and obtain a fix, whilst covering the window. Remember. Window grilles are not flexible. Fly screens are.

In most cases it is best to face fix if the recess is difficult to measure. You can simply measure where you would like the screen to cover.

Shipping

Once your order is custom-made to your specifications, it is then packaged for shipment directly to the shipping address. Once dispatched, you will be sent a tracking number.

From the time you place the order, your item will be dispatched from our workshop within 5-7 business days. Any delays in delivery will be communicated to you by our staff.

Extra Fees

For delivery to rural areas, we may ask you to pay some extra fees to cover the additional charges by the specific courier to your areas. We book our deliveries from transidrect.com.au. If you receive such an email requesting additional payment, you can check the website with the shipment details to review the shipping costs.

Our shipping fees are competitive if you are located in metro areas in Australia. However, some rural areas only have a very limited number of couriers and they charge significantly higher than our standard rates.

Alternatively, we can refund you the shipping fees, and you can organize the delivery from your end. We will disclose the shipment information in the email seeking extra fees. You can reply to us if we wish to do so.

Lastly, we can also refund you in full if you do not wish to proceed with the order, due to the extra fees.

Return Policy

Please note all of our products are custom ordered and fabricated. We do not accept returns for refunds if:

1. you change your mind, not wanting it anymore;
2. you want a different colour or a different product;
3. the product does not fit the opening, is too big or too small;
4. there are scratches on the products upon delivery;
5. the mesh on the screen is not tight enough;

There are situations, where the products may be scratched. In this situation, we will need you to provide us with photos of the products received within 3 business days of delivery and show us the scratches. Unless the scratches show cuts into the materials resulting in the materials bent or breaking apart, generally they are not enough to warrant a refund.

According to AS/NZS 2803 Doors Security Screen, the primary purpose of a screen door is to create a safety barrier between the household and the intruder that can survive and withstand a certain level of impact. We generally do not consider scratches to be defects, but we do our best trying to avoid them by packing the products with layers of cardboard before delivery. We also generally leave the protective film intact when fabricating the doors. However, it does not guarantee the products will not have minor scratches upon its delivery. Please take this into account before making a purchase.

When fitting a metal mesh onto the flyscreens, it is impossible to stretch the mesh tightly, because 1. the mesh is harder than the aluminium frame; 2. the frame is not strong enough to hold the pressure of the over-stretched mesh. We generally do not recommend stretching the mesh very tight, regardless it is a metal or nylon mesh. A stretched mesh can break more easily under pressure or weather.

We will stretch the mesh to the degree that it will not cause the frame to deform and not break easily. If you find the mesh not stretched to the level of your old mesh or to your liking, there is nothing we can do because the materials that we used could be very different to what you had. Please consider the fact that the screen is to stop flies and insects, not anything else.

We will issue a refund if:

1) the product is deemed lost or stolen in transit; depending on the investigation of the courier company;

2) the product is significantly damaged, bent, or no longer fits its purpose upon receipt, you must contact us within 3 days of its delivery;

3) the product is fabricated significantly differently from the size requirements that you sent us; in this case, the difference must be greater than 5 mm and renders the product unfit for its intended purpose.

Please note that all the products are hand made and the tape measure can have a loose or tight fitting at the endpoint. Because of these reasons, a difference in tape reading of 1~4 mm should be considered within the margin of error and there are remedies that we can offer to fit the products without making any significant changes. We will not issue refunds or accept any returns in this case.
